In this book, the author, Jan van Rijckenborgh, places us before the words spoken by Jesus in the well-known Sermon on the Mount. These words were aimed at the seeker; at those who have become conscious of their unceasing search and its deeper purpose: the complete liberation of all of mankind. But on this path, the candidate is confronted with their own inner state of being, and the author has taken the words of Jesus from the Gospel of Matthew (Chapters 5-7), to bring the spiritual lessons contained therein, into a new light of understanding.

Those who are sensitive to this phase of awareness, also open themselves to the guidance of their microcosmic system by the Gnosis. Approaching the deeper spiritual meanings in the words of Jesus, such as 'You shall not commit adultery', 'Judge Not', and 'Do not give dogs, that which is Holy', we are confronted with the inner tasks to which these words are aimed. Not to be misunderstood as directives given to us from an outside authority, but as tasks that must be accomplished within the deepest aspects of our being, these 'lessons' must be lived as a reflection of our own state of being.

Many are those who recognise the truth within these words, but few understand their significance as spiritual aspects of inner growth. Here the author has given the reader insights that will help them to understand these 'sermons' on a broader and deeper level, thus adding knowledge to aid the direction of their longing.

The precepts given in the Sermon on the Mount are intended for candidates in the Christian mysteries, who have the inner awareness that the approach to life described is not as something to be believed in or experimented with, but as a reality we can only grow towards with the aid of the New Soul. Jan van Rijckenborgh explains these familiar precepts in a way the spiritual seeker will find truly enlightening and liberating. It is the viewpoint necessary for those who are actively engaged in the gnostic process of total inner renovation, and is offered as practical and insightful means of orientation on that path.
