Jan van Rijckenborgh places the reader before the reality of the world situation as we experience it today — the insatiable hunger for power over others, and the everpresent fear of calamity and disaster that is seen by the ego as its loss of control.
The author shows us the inescapable end to which this race to dominate leads us, but also introduces us to the only true remedy for man’s present condition.

He places us before the necessity for each one of us to make the far-reaching changes in our attitude of life, if the ever-growing threat of collapse is to be avoided. Based on the idea: ‘if you want to change the world, first change yourself’,
the author presents the reader with the one necessity that each of us must undertake, if the longing for true spiritual values is to have expression in our lives.

Taking the reader into a deeper understanding of the esoteric constitution that implies the ‘health’ of humankind, the author shows us the limits of this within the boundaries of the law of life and death, and introduces the universal remedy, as the
only solution that can overcome these limitations. Linking true health to the reunification of the new Soul with the Spirit, he takes us on a journey that opens this path to the reunification of all humankind with the Universal Spirit.

The supreme remedy is an astral light-power, originating from a different astral field and of an absolutely pure and sanctified nature. If our present state is determined by an astral condition, then obviously we can be helped only by a new astral
condition. Then we will be able to see clearly that the new light-power acts as an antithesis to literally everything that maintains and keeps in motion our nature-born astral self. It leads the candidate towards self-discovery and, at the same time, itis a
force for healing, not automatically, but through the candidate himself taking in hand the great work of sanctification. This work of self-surrender is the not-doing of the 'I' on the one hand, and a very vigorous action in the power of the light of God on the other. In this way the pupil brings the entire process of the redemption of the soul to a good end.
